Travel insurance carriers release position statements when current events affect coverage.  On 5/16/10, travel in the UK was again impacted by a volcanic ash cloud.  The following is a position statement from CSA addressing what coverage is available and when a policy must have been purchased. Additional travel insurance carriers are adding or modifying coverage for volcanic ash as they continue to evaluate the situation.

A cloud of volcanic ash again interfered with regular flight patterns beginning Sunday May 16, 2010, in Northern Ireland, Scotland and England.  A flight ban was imposed in the area on Sunday, and restrictions, delays and cancellations are still lingering.

For those plans that do offer coverage for adverse or inclement weather, there is no coverage for this specific event under any plans purchased on or after May 16, 2010.
