Government Warning Issued for Mexico
U.S. Consulate General Nuevo Laredo issued the following Warden Message on June 9:
The United States Consulate General in Nuevo Laredo has received reports that the Mexican military has been involved in a gunfight with armed persons, reportedly narcotics cartel gunmen, in the vicinity of the Wal-Mart on Avenida Reforma. We therefore advise all U.S. citizens to avoid the area for the time being. U.S. citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events.
U.S. citizens traveling abroad should regularly monitor the U.S. Embassy’s website and the U.S. Department of State’s, Bureau of Consular Affairs website where the current Worldwide Caution, Travel Warnings, Travel Alerts, and Country Specific Information can be found. The U.S. Embassy also encourages U.S. citizens to review “A Safe Trip Abroad,” which includes valuable security information for those both living and traveling abroad.
